Inkbook is a European brand that has been developing e-readers for over five years. The company don’t do any real marketing or run targeted advertisements. InkBOOK Calypso Plus is an improved version of the InkBOOK Calypso reader, which has gained several better components and updated software.Let’s know more.
Display
The inkBOOK Calypso Plus is equipped a 6-inch E INK Carta HD capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 758 pixels and 212 dpi. It comes with a frontlit display and color temperature system. This device also can use a dark mode function. When we start it, all the colors visible on the screen will be reversed. Black text on a white background will be replaced with white text on a black background. Thanks to this, we will reduce the brightness of the screen during evening reading.
Because the device’s screen displays 16 levels of gray, all the characters and images you see remain crisp and contrasting. Although the device’s display is sensitive to touch, it responds to it with some delay. Then just use the sliders to adjust the backlight settings of the screen.
Specification and software
Inside the Calypso Plus InkBook, it is a quad-core ARM Cortex-A35 processor, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of flash memory. It does not have an SD card. It has WIFI, Bluetooth and is powered by a 1900 mAh battery. It supports EPUB, PDF (reflow) with Adobe DRM (ADEPT), MOBI and audiobooks . You can plugin a pair of Bluetooth enabled headphones, earbuds or an external speaker.
In terms of software, it is running Google Android 8.1 with a skinned version called InkOS. It has a small app store, primarily populated by European apps, like Skoobe. You can sideload in your own apps, which is a big advantage.
Design
InkBOOK Calypso Plus has a minimalist, aesthetic design. The edges of the ebook reader housing are slightly rounded, which makes it quite comfortable to hold. InkBook Calypso has four individually programmable side buttons, not middle buttons. The buttons help you turn book pages forwards or backwards. Alternatively, pages can be turned over by simply tapping the right or left edge of the touchscreen. As a result, they not only remain discreet, but also comfortable to use.
The device is available in several colors: gold, black, red, blue, gray and yellow. The dimensions of the e-book reader are 159 × 114 × 9 mm, and its weight is 155 g.
Conclusion
The big advantage of InkBOOK Calypso Plus is that despite its affordable price( €104.88 from the main Inkbook website), it has the function of adjusting the color and intensity of the screen backlight. And the lack of a 300 PPI screen might be a main reason. It should be emphasized, however, that the light generated by LEDs is yellow and not very intense in his case, which causes quite an unpleasant impression. As a result, InkBOOK Calypso performs worse in this area than its competitor.
