The Surface Pro is Microsoft’s high-end 2-in-1 PC.  It’s been a few years since Microsoft launched an all-new device in its Surface Pro line. The Surface Pro 8 changes a lot, introducing a sleeker chassis with a larger display than the Surface Pro 7. It’s much more attractive, thanks to its new thin-bezel 13-inch screen, but its core functionality is otherwise unchanged. This is still a best-in-class detachable 2-in-1 in terms of design, and when paired with the improved 11th Generation Core i7 “Tiger Lake” processor in our model (and the advantages of Windows 11), this tablet can compete as a true laptop replacement.

Performance and specs

The Surface Pro 8 features 11th-gen Intel CPUs, starts with an Intel Core i5-1135G7, 8GB, and a 128GB SSD, which is a major step up in price but the specs definitely justify it, and quite frankly, this should be considered the bare minimum of what you’re need to run Windows 10/11. You can upgrade all the way up to an Intel Core i7, 32 GB RAM and 1TB SSD, which will cost more.

The Surface pro 8 is more power than ever for intensive workloads, with active cooling , deliver unprecedented levels of performance in an ultra-portable and versatile package.

Display

The Pro 8 has a 2880 x 1920 13-inch touch display,  the side bezels are visibly smaller than the Pro 7’s. So the Surface 8 also has an extra 11% of screen real estate thanks to the slimmer bezels, making the whole device look much bigger than the Surface Pro 7. The top one is still chunky — which makes sense, since you need something to hold if you’re using this as a tablet — but the keyboard deck covers the bottom one when the Pro 8 is in laptop mode.

It has a 120Hz refresh rate, which is unusual to see outside of the gaming device.  It makes for a better experience— the cursor is nicer to look at as you drag it around the screen, there’s less lag when you’re writing with the stylus, and scrolling is just so much smoother. The Pro 8 automatically adjusts the look of your screen based on the environment around you.  It definitely made the screen easier on my eyes, especially at night.

Webcam and microphone

The camera is 5MP front-facing camera with 1080p FHD video, 10MP rear-facing autofocus camera with 1080p HD and 4K video.

The Surface Pro 8 has one of the best webcams we’ve ever used in a mobile computing device, specially improtant for your video conference.

In all of the calls we’ve taken in our time with the device, both for work and for chats with friends and loved ones, the voice is perfectly clear without any kind of distortion or problems with focus. And, the front-facing camera is also Windows Hello compatible, so you can use it to log in.

The microphone is also fantastic, especially considering the form-factor. Our voice comes through nice and clear with no distortion, and the tablet does a great job at filtering out background noise, so we don’t even need to use headphones in calls.

Battery life

The Surface Pro 8 lasts up to 16 hours of battery life if keep connected to what matters all day with, although that’s based on basic everyday usage with the brightness set to 150 nits. And just 1 hour for 80% charge,  fast charging to go from low battery to full faster. Still, it sounds like a significant improvement on the claimed 10 hours you’ll get from the Pro 7.

Finally, it is very expensive,  the starting price $1099.00 dollars,  and the keyboard and stylus is separately sold.
